SOLAR
COVER USE AND CARE
What are the Benefits of a Solar Cover?
Solar Covers take advantage of the sun's FREE HEAT.
It will allow you to enjoy warmer water throughout your
swimming pool season. Water temperatures may increase
up to 10° to 15° and it will lengthen your swimming
season. In addition to this, here are a few benefits
to having a Solar Cover for your pool:
Cuts heating cost by gas and electric heaters by up
to 70%.
Cuts water evaporation by up to 95%.
Save on chemicals and energy costs.
Keeps pool cleaner.
Durable and reliable.
A solar blanket will hold the heat in the water at night,
especially early and late in the season.
Why does my solar cover
break down?
Pool chemistry is the most common cause of cover delamination
and loss of bubble surface. Too much chlorine will break
down the cover material quickly while exposed to the
sun. When adding chemicals to your pool, be sure to
remove the cover, and leave the cover off while the
chemicals are being dispersed in your water. Always
keep your chemicals in balance.
How do I install
and use my solar cover?
Install the blanket on the pool bubble side down. If
your cover needs trimming, spread it out on the pool
and let it settle down for a day or two. This allows
wrinkles and folds to disappear and the cover to lie
flat. Trim the blanket so the edges are flush with the
side walls of your pool. Gaps will allow the heat to
escape or the wind the get up underneath your cover
and blow off. If you have a solar reel, attach it via
a solar reel strap kit.
Avoid placing your cover on your lawn when you remove
it. The sun rays passing through the solar cover bubbles
can damage your grass. Never drag your solar cover across
sharp surfaces. This will tear and pop your cover.
Storing your
solar cover
The blanket should not be stored in an area where temperatures
reach over 120° F. Extreme temperatures can expand
the bubbles and cause delamination and blistering -
weakening the blanket.
Before storing your blanket, clean it and allow to dry
thoroughly to prevent mildew. Place the blanket in a
clean, dry and rodent free area. To prolong the life
of your blanket, it should be removed during the winter
months and a winter cover put on to keep your pool clean.
What is covered
under warranty?
The solar cover warranty covers SEAM SEPARATION which
is considered a manufacturer's defect. Cover damage
due to improper chemical balance, improper handling,
tears from sharp objects or things falling into the
pool, rodents, or other similar situations are not covered
under warranty. Solar cover warranties are pro-rated.
They are as follows:
Standard Blue Solar Covers:
>>
08 mil: 3 Yr Warranty :
1 Yr Full
>> 12 mil: 6 Yr Warranty
: 2 Yr Full
>> 16 mil: 7 Yr Warranty
: 2 Yr Full
Clear Solar
Covers:
>>
12 mil: 18 Yr Warranty
: 2 Yr Full
Transparent Black Solar Covers:
>>
12 mil: 5 Yr Warranty : 1 Yr Full
The
warranties have two parts. For example the 8 mil Standard
Blue cover has a 3 year warranty with 1 year full. Full
means that if your cover is defective, and it is deemed
to be covered under warranty, your cover will be replaced
at no charge. After the full warranty period, the warranty
is pro-rated and you will receive a certain percentage
off the purchase of another cover.

The
Standard 8, 12 & 16 mil Blue:
Our solar covers are made of durable resin and have
thousands of tiny air bubbles designed to capture
and transmit solar heat to your pool. A solar cover
will keep your pool water cleaner by blocking out
dirt and debris which will save on chemicals. Using
a solar cover cuts water evaporation by up to 95%
and prevents heat loss. The solar cover also takes
advantage of the suns "free heat" that
will result in, on average a 15° temperature
rise.

The
12 mil Transparent Black: This heavy
duty black cover heats faster and absorbs more heat
that the standard cover. However, due to this, and
being a darker color, it is more likely to wear
out faster due to sun damage. This cover will help
raise your pool temperature by up to10° to 14°.

The
12 & 16 mil Clear: The purpose
of a solar cover is to allow the MAXIMUM amount
of sun's rays to penetrate the greatest depths of
your pool. In tests, the clear cover has been shown
to be the most effective in allowing the solar heat
into your pool. Being clear, it allows the most
sun rays to pass into the pool allowing it to be
heated about 2-3 feet deeper than any of the tinted
covers.

Frequently
Asked Questions - And Other Troubleshooting
Tips |
Here
are some questions we are often asked. If there are
any other questions that you would like an answer to,
please do not hesitate to contact
us and we will do our best to answer. |
| |
|
Why
does my cover crease when I reel it in? |
-
The
system was not set squarely to the pool, therefore
the cover is pulling more on one side than the other.
To remedy this, you will need to reset the system
square to the pool.
-
Some
of the strapping is tighter than others, this will
cause uneven tension and creasing. Take the straps
off at the tube and refasten them so that each one
has the same tension.
|
|
Why
is my system difficult to reel up? |
|
|
|
The
drop in anchor (concrete seal) turns when I tighten
the anchor bold. |
-
The
hole for the drop in anchor is too big. The right
size is 1/2" round hole (1-1/2" deep).
If the hole is more than 1/2" in diameter,
you will need to drill another hole of the correct
size and reset the others.
-
This
can be a problem when the drop in anchor has not
been center punched. By doing this with a center
punch (or large nail) it will force the legs out
into the concrete. This will secure it into the
concrete and it will not rotate.
-
You
are over tightening the anchor bolts. You need
only turn the bolt about two turns to engage
the threads, this will be enough to hold the
system while in use. To fix this use a center
punch (or large nail) and reset the anchor in
the same hole.
|
|
I
have a wooden deck around my pool. Can I use the anchors
included in the kit? |
|
|
|
My
tube tends to sag. Why? |
|
Firstly,
any tubing will sag the longer it is extended, gravity
tends to take its course.
-
Most
sagging is the result of someone using the tube
as a seat. Tubing is not designed to be sat on at
any time, this is also a dangerous practice and
can cause injury.
-
Did
you follow the instructions and bolt the tubes together?
Or did you screw them together? If you screwed them
together they will not have the same lateral integrity
as bolting them together.
-
Check the length of the tubing against the instruction
sheet and ensure the tubing is not over extended.
If you over extend the tubing sagging will occur.
-
Are you using a heavy cover? If so the weight may
be causing the sagging. All Rocky's tube sizes are
determined using a 1/8" bubble cover, so therefore
any other type of cover may cause a problem.
|
|
How
far apart should I place the strapping? |
|
|
|
Why
won't the grommets stay together? |
-
This
problem is usually due to incorrect application.
The strapping should be purchased as far over the
shaft on the female grommet as possible. Then insert
the male grommet and tap with a hammer, not too
hard, but enough to snap them together. This should
resolve the problem.

Where
do I place my reel system for the best possible effect? |
