General Solar Cover Faq's
A Solar Cover also known as a Solar Blanket is placed on the
water's surface of a pool, spa or hot tub and increases the
water temperature by absorption and transmission of solar radiation;
reduces evaporation and prevents wind-borne debris from entering
the water. Solar Covers take advantage of the sun's FREE HEAT
and is more cost effective and environmentally safe when compared
to pool heaters. It will allow you to enjoy warmer water throughout
your swimming pool season. Water temperatures may increase up
to 10° to 15° and it will lengthen your swimming season.
- A Solar Cover Cuts heating cost by gas and electric heaters by up to 70%.
- Cuts water evaporation by up to 95%.
- Save on chemicals and energy costs.
- Keeps pool cleaner.
- Durable and reliable.
- A solar blanket will hold the heat in the water at night, especially early and late in the season.
Pool chemistry is the most common cause of cover delamination and loss of bubble surface. Too much chlorine
will break down the cover material quickly while exposed to the sun. When adding chemicals to your pool, be sure
to remove the cover, and leave the cover off while the chemicals are being dispersed in your water. Always keep
your chemicals in balance.
Install the blanket on the pool bubble side down. If your cover needs trimming, spread it out on the pool
and let it settle down for a day or two. This allows wrinkles and folds to disappear and the cover to lie flat.
Trim the blanket so the edges are flush with the side walls of your pool. Gaps will allow the heat to escape or
the wind the get up underneath your cover and blow off. If you have a solar reel, attach it via a solar reel strap kit.
Avoid placing your cover on your lawn when you remove it. The sun rays passing through the solar cover bubbles
can damage your grass. Never drag your solar cover across sharp surfaces. This will tear and pop your cover.
The blanket should not be stored in an area where temperatures reach over 120° F. Extreme temperatures
can expand the bubbles and cause delamination and blistering - weakening the blanket.
Before storing your blanket, clean it and allow to dry thoroughly to prevent mildew. Place the blanket in a
clean, dry and rodent free area. To prolong the life of your blanket, it should be removed during the winter
months and a winter cover put on to keep your pool clean.
The solar cover warranty covers SEAM SEPARATION which
is considered a manufacturer's defect. Cover damage
due to improper chemical balance, improper handling,
tears from sharp objects or things falling into the
pool, rodents, or other similar situations are not covered
under warranty. Solar cover warranties are pro-rated.
They are as follows:
Standard Blue Solar Covers:
>>
08 mil: 3 Yr Warranty :
1 Yr Full
>> 12 mil: 6 Yr Warranty
: 2 Yr Full
>> 16 mil: 7 Yr Warranty
: 2 Yr Full
Clear Solar
Covers:
>>
12 mil: 18 Yr Warranty
: 2 Yr Full
Transparent Black Solar Covers:
>>
12 mil: 5 Yr Warranty : 1 Yr Full
The
warranties have two parts. For example the 8 mil Standard
Blue cover has a 3 year warranty with 1 year full. Full
means that if your cover is defective, and it is deemed
to be covered under warranty, your cover will be replaced
at no charge. After the full warranty period, the warranty
is pro-rated and you will receive a certain percentage
off the purchase of another cover.
-
The
system was not set squarely to the pool, therefore
the cover is pulling more on one side than the other.
To remedy this, you will need to reset the system
square to the pool.
-
Some
of the strapping is tighter than others, this will
cause uneven tension and creasing. Take the straps
off at the tube and refasten them so that each one
has the same tension.
-
The
hole for the drop in anchor is too big. The right
size is 1/2" round hole (1-1/2" deep).
If the hole is more than 1/2" in diameter,
you will need to drill another hole of the correct
size and reset the others.
-
This
can be a problem when the drop in anchor has not
been center punched. By doing this with a center
punch (or large nail) it will force the legs out
into the concrete. This will secure it into the
concrete and it will not rotate.
-
You
are over tightening the anchor bolts. You need
only turn the bolt about two turns to engage
the threads, this will be enough to hold the
system while in use. To fix this use a center
punch (or large nail) and reset the anchor in
the same hole.
Firstly,
any tubing will sag the longer it is extended, gravity
tends to take its course.
-
Most
sagging is the result of someone using the tube
as a seat. Tubing is not designed to be sat on at
any time, this is also a dangerous practice and
can cause injury.
-
Did
you follow the instructions and bolt the tubes together?
Or did you screw them together? If you screwed them
together they will not have the same lateral integrity
as bolting them together.
-
Check the length of the tubing against the instruction
sheet and ensure the tubing is not over extended.
If you over extend the tubing sagging will occur.
-
Are you using a heavy cover? If so the weight may
be causing the sagging. All Rocky's tube sizes are
determined using a 1/8" bubble cover, so therefore
any other type of cover may cause a problem.
-
This
problem is usually due to incorrect application.
The strapping should be purchased as far over the
shaft on the female grommet as possible. Then insert
the male grommet and tap with a hammer, not too
hard, but enough to snap them together. This should
resolve the problem.
