Solar Sun Rings are a passive solar swimming pool heating device, which are
constructed from 2 sheets of U.V. resistant vinyl. , The upper clear layer
directs the suns rays onto the bottom blue layer that absorbs about 50% of
the sunlight and converts it to heat. The balance of the sunlight filters through
the ring down into your pool water.
Solar Sun Rings have two grids, inner and outer, that require inflation. The
inner grid should be inflated orally with about two large breaths of air for
an average person. Do not use more air, two breaths is all that is needed.
Then close the valve, bunch up the Solar Sun Ring and move the contained air
around to separate both layers of plastic. The Solar Sun Ring cannot be made
to lie flat unless the layers are separated. The Solar Sun Ring should be about
the size of a soccer ball when bunched up. Next the outer ring needs to be
inflated. To inflate the outer ring, you need to breathe into it orally until
it is firm. Place each Solar Sun Ring in a single layer in direct sunlight
on a flat non-abrasive surface until the packing lines relax. This could take
30 minutes to 30 hours depending on the intensity of the sun. It is important to have
the Solar Sun Rings lay flat. If the Solar Sun Ring does not lie flat after
the packing lines are relaxed, examine the Solar Sun Ring for areas not separated.
If the Solar Sun Ring still does not lie flat measure the diameter. A properly
inflated Solar Sun Ring is 59 inches in diameter. If the Solar Sun Ring is
smaller use the deflation tube provided to let air out of the inner grid until
it lies flat. Excessive air in the grid section, deep packing lines and failure
to separate both layers of plastic will all cause the outer edge to curl and
distort.
Each unit contains 6 magnets that are used to attach the rings together and
now include water anchors. The water anchor is an additional segmented overlapping
channel of vinyl below the outer ring. The channel is self-filling when the
Solar Sun Ring is placed on the pool. It is also self-emptying when manually
removed from the pool. However, in strong winds the horizontal lifting closes
the overlapping segments retaining the water for weight and stability. Solar
Sun Rings are easy to remove and can be cleaned with a sponge and white vinegar
solution. Solar Sun Rings can be stacked when not in use. Beware not to stack
them in direct sunlight. The excessive internal temperatures will develop and
melt the vinyl films. When your pool water has reached the desired temperature
simply turn the five foot Solar Sun Rings over to conserve water by limiting
evaporation without significantly heating the water.
Solar Sun Rings will cover 50% of your pool surface based on the manufacturers
Ring Calculator formula. The majority of heat loss from a pool comes from the
water surface at night. Solar Sun Rings do not cover the entire surface of
your pool; therefore it allows heat to escape. To help keep the warm water
in your pool at night we recommend you use an additional product such as solar
fish or a solar blanket.
Do not over inflate. Do not use as a floatation device.
